Viscosity Unit Conversion

Shanghai Wujiu Automation Equipment Co., Ltd.

Common Viscosity Unit Conversion:

1 Centipoise = 1 Millipascal second (1 cP = 1 mPa·s)

100 Centipoise = 1 Poise (100 cP = 1 P)

1000 Millipascal second = 1 Pascal second (1000 mPa·s = 1 Pa·s)

Conversion between Dynamic and Kinematic Viscosity:

η = ν × ρ

Where:

  • η – Dynamic viscosity in mPa·s
  • ν – Kinematic viscosity in mm²/s
  • ρ – Density of the sample at the same temperature as kinematic viscosity, in g/cm³

For liquids, higher pressure and lower temperature lead to higher viscosity. Conversely, lower pressure and higher temperature reduce viscosity.

For gases, pressure has minimal effect on viscosity. However, higher temperature increases viscosity, while lower temperature decreases it.

Understanding these relationships is essential for accurate material selection and performance prediction in various industrial applications such as lubrication, fluid dynamics, and chemical processing.
