The severity of the damage depends on several factors: the amount of current that flows through the body, the duration of exposure, and the individual's physical condition. For instance, currents above 0.05 amps can be dangerous, and anything above 0.1 amp may lead to fatal outcomes. The longer a person remains in contact with an electric source, the higher the risk of severe injury or death.

If someone experiences an electric shock at around 0.015 amps, they may not be able to let go of the source due to muscle contractions. This makes it crucial to act quickly in such situations. The human body has natural resistance, especially from the skin, which typically ranges between 1,000 and 180,000 ohms. However, this resistance drops significantly when the skin is wet, increasing the risk of more severe shocks. Generally, voltages below 45 volts are considered safe for direct contact with the body. That’s why safety voltages—such as those used in safety lights—should always remain under 45 volts.

The primary causes of electric shock accidents include working with faulty equipment (like damaged motors, wires, or switches), touching exposed or worn-out wires, lack of proper grounding, and insufficient protective gear. These issues can lead to unexpected and potentially deadly outcomes if not addressed promptly.

To ensure safe use of electrical equipment, it's essential to follow strict safety procedures and be aware of basic precautions. First, if the insulation on a wire is damaged, it should not be used until properly repaired and insulated. Always inspect electrical devices before use. When turning switches on or off, do so quickly and avoid facing them directly to reduce the risk of injury. When checking the temperature of a motor casing, use the back of your hand rather than your palm to prevent being pulled in by the current. Additionally, only trained personnel should handle electrical systems; untrained individuals should never attempt repairs. Finally, avoid using wet hands or damp cloths when cleaning electrical equipment, as this increases the likelihood of electric shock.

By understanding these risks and following proper safety measures, users can significantly reduce the chances of electrical accidents and protect themselves and others in the process.
