PLCs replace traditional relay circuits to implement logic and sequence control. They can be used for single device control or multi-machine group control. Examples include pump start/stop, valve switching, water system control, and dry ash removal systems.

2. Industrial Process Control

In industrial production, there are continuous variables like temperature, pressure, flow, liquid level, and speed (analog signals). PLCs use A/D and D/A modules along with various control algorithms to process these signals and perform closed-loop control. PID regulation is commonly used in such systems. This type of control is widely applied in metallurgy and chemical industries, and at Yuncheng Power Plant, it's mainly used for central air conditioning and heating systems.

3. Motion Control

PLCs are also used for controlling circular or linear motion. Special motion control modules are often employed, such as single-axis or multi-axis position control modules that drive stepper or servo motors. These are extensively used in machines, machine tools, robots, and elevators.

4. Data Processing

PLCs offer a range of data processing capabilities, including mathematical operations, data transfer, conversion, sorting, and lookup functions. They can collect, analyze, and process large amounts of data efficiently.

5. Communication and Networking

PLC communication includes both communication between PLCs and communication between PLCs and other intelligent devices. With the advancement of factory automation networks, modern PLCs come equipped with communication interfaces, making integration and communication much more straightforward and efficient.
