1. Formaldehyde, benzene, and TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) are the primary harmful substances released during home decoration. These pollutants come from various materials used in the renovation process, such as wood panels, paints, adhesives, and furniture. Over time, these chemicals can accumulate indoors, leading to poor air quality and potential health risks.

According to national regulations, common decorative materials include wood-based panels, solvent-based coatings, interior wall paints, adhesives, wood furniture, wallpaper, PVC flooring, carpets, and more. Among them, formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene, and TVOC are the most concerning due to their toxic effects. Even if "green" materials are used, excessive use can still lead to indoor pollution, causing long-term health issues. This problem is now widespread, making it essential for everyone to pay close attention.

2. To accurately assess indoor air quality, it’s crucial to conduct proper air testing. The Chinese standard GB/T 18883-2002 provides specific thresholds for harmful substances like formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene, and TVOC. By testing the air after renovation, you can determine whether the levels of these pollutants are within safe limits. If the results meet the national standards, it means the indoor air is safe for living. For example, the acceptable level of formaldehyde is 0.10 mg/m³.

3. If a test result shows a concentration of 0.35 mg/m³, this exceeds the safe limit and indicates formaldehyde pollution. In such cases, it's not advisable to stay in the room until the issue is resolved. Indoor air quality testing serves as the most reliable method for identifying and addressing potential pollution problems, ensuring a healthier living environment for you and your family.

It's important to remember that even small amounts of harmful gases can build up over time, so regular monitoring and proper ventilation are key to maintaining good indoor air quality. Always prioritize safety when it comes to your home environment.
