"This computer" is too much to delete

Are you tired of seeing cluttered shortcuts in "This PC" on Windows 10? Those six folder icons—Videos, Pictures, Documents, Downloads, Music, and Desktop—they hog up so much space on the left side, while your drive letters are squeezed into a smaller area. It’s visually unappealing, especially if you don’t use some of these folders frequently or simply prefer a cleaner look. If you're looking to declutter your "This PC" view, you might consider removing those shortcuts. Take a moment to check out the screenshot below, where you can see how much space these shortcuts take up. It’s a bit awkward, right? [Image: A screenshot showing the cluttered left pane in "This PC"] Now, before you go ahead and make any changes, it's always wise to back up your registry settings. This ensures you can easily restore everything if anything goes wrong. Let’s start by opening the Registry Editor from the Start menu. Yes, yes, I know it sounds a bit intimidating, but trust me, it’s straightforward! Here’s the exact path you’ll need to navigate to: ``` HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace ``` If typing all this feels like a chore, simply copy the path (including the quotes) and paste it into the address bar of the Registry Editor—it’ll take you straight there. [Image: Screenshot showing the address bar with the path] Before we dive in, let’s export the current settings. Right-click on the “NameSpace” key and choose “Export.” Save this backup file somewhere safe—you never know when you might need it. Alright, now comes the fun part. We’re going to remove the shortcuts for the six folders. Each folder corresponds to a specific registry key value, and you can delete them one by one. Here’s the list: - **Downloads Folder**: `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{088e3905-0323-4b02-9826-5d99428e115f}` - **Pictures Folder**: `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{24ad3ad4-a569-4530-98e1-ab02f9417aa8}` - **Music Folder**: `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{3dfdf296-dbec-4fb4-81d1-6a3438bcf4de}` - **Documents Folder**: `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{d3162b92-9365-467a-956b-92703aca08af}` - **Video Folder**: `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{f86fa3ab-70d2-4fc7-9c99-fcbf05467f3a}` - **Desktop Folder**: `HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\{B4BFCC3A-DB2C-424C-B029-7FE99A87C641}` Once you’ve deleted these keys, restart your computer. When you log back in, you’ll notice that the "This PC" view now only shows your drive letters. The folders themselves haven’t been deleted—they’re still located at `C:\Users\[YourUsername]`, but their shortcuts are gone. If you ever want to restore the original setup, simply double-click the exported registry backup file you saved earlier and restart your computer. And there you have it! Your "This PC" view should now look much tidier. Remember, though, always proceed with caution when editing the registry. Happy tweaking! [Image: Final screenshot showing a clean "This PC" view]
