Tertiary distribution system definition and basic structure

The basic power supply and distribution system for a construction site should be set up in three levels, known as the three-tier power distribution system. This means that the electrical power is distributed from the main source through three stages before reaching the end equipment. Starting from the power distribution cabinet in the distribution room, the electricity is then passed through the secondary distribution box and finally to the switch box (also called the third-level box) before being delivered to the connected electrical devices. This hierarchical method of power distribution ensures efficiency, safety, and control throughout the site. The three-level power distribution system is designed with a clear structure. At the top level, the main distribution panel receives power from the main supply. From there, it is distributed to secondary panels, which further distribute the power to individual switch boxes. Each switch box is directly connected to a single piece of equipment, following the "one machine, one circuit" principle. This setup minimizes risks and simplifies troubleshooting. In addition to its structure, the system must follow certain key principles. These include: 1. **Hierarchical Branching**: Power should be divided step by step, starting from the main distribution panel to the secondary ones, and then to the switch boxes. Each level should only serve the next stage without any direct connections between higher levels. 2. **Separation of Mobile Equipment**: Temporary or mobile equipment should be supplied through dedicated circuits to avoid overloading and ensure proper management. 3. **Reduced Distribution Distance**: The distance between distribution points should be kept as short as possible to reduce voltage drop and energy loss. 4. **Environmental Safety**: All components must be installed in safe locations, away from potential hazards such as water, heat, or physical damage. By adhering to these principles, the three-level power distribution system ensures a reliable, efficient, and safe power supply on construction sites. It also helps in complying with local electrical codes and regulations, reducing the risk of accidents, and improving overall project management.
