With a width of just 7.52mm, it matches the standard Micro USB 2.0 interface but provides enhanced functionality through various pin configurations such as 5+4 and 5+8. These options allow users to choose the best setup for their specific needs—whether it's faster data transfer, video streaming, or efficient charging.
According to Egbert Stellinga, Product Manager for Consumer Electronics at TE, "The new multi-I/O connector from TE brings all future connectivity requirements into a Micro USB 2.0-sized package, supporting USB 3.1 speeds of up to 10Gbps and fast charging with a maximum current of 3A." In addition to its speed and charging capabilities, the HSMIO includes features like Mobility DisplayPort™ (MyDP) and Mobile HD Video Interface (MHL®), enabling external display connections. It also supports backward compatibility with standard Micro USB 2.0, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems. The connector’s four extra pins provide an additional 2A of power, significantly reducing charging times—only one-third of what is possible with standard USB 2.0.
