Spreadtrum Brings Taiwan Semiconductor Power to Produce 3G Chips

Mainland China mobile phone chip designer Spreadtrum and TSMC (2330-TW) jointly announced on the 27th the first mass production of 40nm synchronous time division multiplexed access (TD-SCDMA) baseband processor chip, with both sides in the design and manufacturing process. Efforts such as optimization, to create the first time the output of the chip is the success of success.

The chip is currently in production on the wafer 12 plant of one of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s ultra-large wafer fabs.

TSMC pointed out that this new processor supports TD-SCDMA and other 3.75G to 2G communication specifications and can achieve a 2.8Mbps data transmission bandwidth that is more than 100 times faster than the 2G communication standard.

This baseband processor uses TSMC's 40nm low power technology (40LP) to create longer battery life for mobile communications.

Chen Junsheng, senior deputy general manager of global business and marketing at TSMC, pointed out that Spreadtrum has successfully launched the first 40nm 3G baseband processor for China’s TD-SCDMA standard, which is also the best for TSMC to continuously promote global and domestic logic integrated circuit innovations. Clear evidence. Spreadtrum was established in April 2001 and is the largest 2G and 3G handset chip design company in mainland China.
