Power IntegraTIons (Nasdaq: POWI), a leader in high-voltage integrated circuits for energy-efficient power conversion, today released two copies of high-efficiency, non-isolated, high power factor (PF) for T8 lamp replacement applications LED driver reference design. The new design is characterized by the use of very few components and the use of simple magnetic core materials and single-sided circuit board design, bringing the power density to the industry-leading 14.2 W / in³ level. The LED driver is designed based on Power IntegraTIons' LinkSwitch-PL series IC device LNK460KG. Detailed circuit descriptions are provided in DER-337 (high voltage input) and DER-345 (low voltage input). Both drivers use a single-stage, non-isolated topology, resulting in a driver thickness of only 8 mm-enough to be installed behind the LED of the T8 tube.
Buck-boost (DER-337) or buck (DER-345) configurations can provide power factors above 0.9 and low THD to meet EN61000-3-2 C limits. The design meets EMI standards and can easily meet the requirements of EN55015 (EMI) Class B specifications. The integrated single-stage driver IC can simultaneously control PFC and constant current output, so that the number of components in the design is less than 30. The efficiency of these two drivers is as high as 92% (DER-337) and 89% (DER-345), respectively, and the output power is 20 W (output voltage 85 V, output current 240 mA).
