Polysilicon market is booming from January to June with nearly 20,000 tons imported

According to the latest customs data, the domestic polysilicon import volume in June 2010 was 3,784 tons, an increase of 14.9% from the previous month and a year-on-year increase of 208.1%. From January to June, the total domestic polysilicon imports were 19,330 tons.

The "2010-2015 China Polysilicon Industry Investment Analysis and Prospects Forecast Report" issued by the China Investment Advisor shows that China's cumulative import of polysilicon in the first half of May 2010 was 15,500 tons, an increase of 121.9% compared to 7,007 tons in the same period last year. . From a month-to-month perspective, China's imports of polysilicon from January to May 2010 were: 3,158 tons, 2,647 tons, 3,239 tons, 3,280 tons, and 3,222 tons, which are still at a high level compared with the same period of last year.

Investment adviser Jiang Qian, chief researcher of the new energy industry pointed out that in 2009 the total imports of polysilicon in China is about 20,000 tons, this figure has reached 19,300 tons in the first half of this year, close to the level of last year. This is behind the continuous warming of the global photovoltaic market, the explosive growth of domestic photovoltaic manufacturers battery module shipments, which led to the strong demand for raw materials, polysilicon upstream.

Since 2010, with the gradual warming of the global economy and the pulling effect of governments' efforts to promote solar energy policies, the photovoltaic industry has shown a strong recovery. The latest statistics show that the global PV module shipments in the first half of 2010 were about 7GW, not only far beyond the annual installation level before the financial crisis, but also equal to the global new installed capacity last year.

Jiang Qian pointed out that based on the market share of more than 40% of China's photovoltaic manufacturers, the domestic manufacturers' PV module shipments should exceed 3 GW in the previous year. Take JA Solar as an example. In the first half of this year, the company produced a total of 582 MW of solar cells with a sales volume of 582 MW and sales revenue of 6 billion yuan, an increase of 500% year-on-year. In 2009, the company's total delivery volume was 509 MW. While domestic polysilicon production capacity has not yet been released, the huge demand gap can only be filled by imports. Therefore, the domestic polysilicon import volume reached 19,330 tons in the first half of this year, and it is not difficult to understand that it is close to the level of last year.

Behind the strong market demand is the rising trend of polysilicon prices. Since March 2010, the prices of photovoltaic products have continued to rise globally. Taking solar cell prices as an example, the average global solar cell price in the first quarter was maintained at around 1.3 euro/watt, but by the end of June this price was at $1.42/ Watts, an increase of nearly 7% from the previous quarter. This has also led to the current domestic spot price of polysilicon has increased from 410-415/kg in April to 425-445/ton.
