Murata Automotive Ceramic Capacitors Receive Safety Standard Certification

With the increasing emphasis on environmental awareness, the popularity of environmentally friendly vehicles is also accelerating. Plug-in hybrid vehicles (hereinafter referred to as PHEV) and electric vehicles (hereinafter referred to as EV) are part of the green industry. It is devoted to practicality and popularization.

Affected by this background, for PHEV and EV to achieve direct charging of external power, the capacitor connected between the primary circuit power line of the car charger and the chassis (ground) needs to be able to withstand the high-voltage impact caused by the external power. Therefore, capacitors that have obtained safety specification certification will be favored by the market. In addition, as a component mounted in an automobile, it is necessary to ensure high reliability of a temperature cycle of 1,000 cycles.

Therefore, we have commercialized the DE6 series model "KJ" of ceramic capacitors certified for automotive safety. This product is used as the capacitor directly connected to the primary circuit of the car charger. It is the same as the safety standard certified product of traditional civil equipment. In order to improve the temperature cycle resistance of ceramic components with high voltage resistance, this product has also been newly coated with insulating resin materials. Obtained safety specification certification

The so-called safety standard is to protect the safety of life and property in the event of electric shock or fire caused by the use of electronic equipment, and specifically sets standards for the safety of complete equipment and electronic equipment. In order to improve the safety of the equipment, capacitors connected to specific parts of the equipment (for example, between different polarities of the power supply primary circuit, between the power cord of the power supply primary circuit and the chassis (ground), etc.) need to be certified for safety product.

To obtain the safety specification certification, you need to accept the specified experiments and meet the required standards, and pass the qualification judgment before you can prove that the capacitor meets the specifications. But at present, there are no clear regulations on the safety specifications of On-Board (vehicle equipment including car charger). In fact, the car charger has already referred to the safety specifications of the existing civilian equipment, and decided the direction of its specification development and put it into practice. Therefore, on the basis of following the existing equipment safety standards (IEC 60384-4), the capacitor has also obtained safety standard certification in various countries. The safety specification certification obtained for the DE6 series "KJ" type is shown in Figure 1 below.
