LED lighting investment leap year annual growth of 500%

"In 2009, China's LED lighting penetration rate was less than 1%, but I estimate that next year will usher in a big outbreak, optimistic estimates may be between 5% and 10%." December 14, 2010 in Guangzhou At the Asian Energy Forum, Wang Dianyu, president of Shenzhen LED ("Light Emitting Diode" energy-saving lamp) industry association, predicted that by 2015, the penetration rate of LED lighting may exceed 30%.

The global lighting giant Philips is more optimistic that the proportion of LED lighting in the global lighting market will rise to 50% in 2015 and 80% in 2020. According to LED inside statistics, in 2009, global LED lighting output value of about 2.4 billion US dollars, the penetration rate was only 3.3%.

Wang Dianbiao disclosed that according to its investigation, the current domestic manufacturers plan to import an epitaxial furnace (MOCVD, ie LED chip production equipment) for 1,466 sets. "What is the concept of this figure? It means that this is the sum of the world's MOCVD in 2006." As of the end of 2009, only 1200 MOCVD equipment have been put into operation worldwide. According to the National High-tech Enterprise Development LED Professional Committee's forecast, the domestic LED industry investment amount will reach 60 billion yuan in 2010, an increase of 500% compared to last year's more than 100 billion yuan.

However, this also led to industry concerns about the LED industry over-investment. There are more than 3,000 LED companies in the country. No one company has a market share of more than 2%. There are only 140 companies with an annual output value of more than 100 million yuan. Among them, none have annual sales of more than 1 billion yuan.

One person in the industry expressed concern about this. At present, LED street lamps in China suffer from technical instability in light efficiency, lighting uniformity, color rendering, and service life. Especially, light fades are too serious in some cities. The test results are very unsatisfactory.

A huge hidden danger is that most Chinese companies currently do not have the core technology of LED. For example, LED chip technology is mainly in the hands of a few foreign companies such as Career, Philips, OSRAM and Nichia.

“More serious is the problem of talents.” Wang Dianbiao said that with 1,466 sets of MOCVD ordered at home, more than 1,400 engineers and more than 100 leading figures are needed, but the current talent echelon construction is far behind.

In Wang Diantang's opinion, domestic companies must take the lean manufacturing of LED roads, "still should pay attention to quality, brand."
