Intel Brings Smart Grid in Ireland with SAP

Intel, the chip maker, recently teamed up with SAP, a leading German provider of business applications for user/server applications, to invest $1.7 million in smart grid research and development. Both will place the most important research point on the actual operation of the smart grid.

Both parties established a research lab at SAP in 2009 and named it "Titanic Quarter of Belfast." It is reported that this lab is the first research center established by Intel Chipzilla Lab in Northern Ireland.

Martin Curley, director of the Intel European Laboratory, said that the collaboration marks a new approach for research collaborations such as Intel, SAP, and Nokia.

He also said that the laboratory is not limited to the company's internal, but they also welcome companies with the same level of technical background to jointly invest in construction.

This cooperation is also a great opportunity for the graduates of Northern Ireland to provide employment.
