666 LTE user equipment have been released worldwide, MWC once again emphasizes multi-mode multi-frequency

According to the latest GSA report, as of the end of January, a total of 666 LTE user devices have been released worldwide, including 221 smartphones and 53 tablet computers. TDD / FDD multi-mode network construction and terminals supporting 3G / LTE multi-mode multi-frequency are the key points emphasized in the GSA report.

During the MWC last week, China Mobile joined operators such as BharTI of India and Clearwire of the United States, and invited Qualcomm, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Samsung Mobile and other companies to jointly hold the GTI Summit. China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua said that at GTI ’s Under the impetus, a number of LTE TDD / FDD operators including China Mobile, Clearwire, KT and others have successfully completed roaming tests; the 11-band multi-mode MiFi promoted by GTI has also been successfully developed, marking LTE TDD / FDD technically With global roaming capabilities.

There are 14 TD-LTE networks in the world, multi-mode multi-frequency is the main tone

According to China Mobile, 14 TD-LTE commercial networks have been opened globally, 28 operators have signed 44 commercial equipment contracts, and more than 20 operators have made clear TD-LTE commercial plans. During the MWC period, China Mobile also jointly released a number of 8 new TD-LTE terminals, including 4 smartphones and 4 LTE MIFI devices, and supported five types of TD-LTE, FDD, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, and GSM The communication mode and the mainstream frequency band of each mode can meet the user's international roaming needs, and the processor of the above terminal is supported by manufacturers such as Qualcomm.

Qualcomm Chairman and CEO Dr. Paul Jacobs gave a keynote speech at the GTI Summit. He said that as of the end of February, the number of terminals supported by Qualcomm processors occupied the first place in China Mobile ’s TD-LTE testing and terminal procurement .

As we all know, there are currently 40 different radio frequency bands in the world. The consensus in the industry is that the inconsistency of frequency bands is the biggest obstacle to the design of LTE terminals worldwide today. To cope with the needs of operators such as China Mobile and other operators for "multi-mode and multi-frequency", Qualcomm launched the RF360 front-end solution during MWC. To solve the problem of inconsistent radio frequency bands in cellular networks, for the first time, a single mobile terminal supports all 4G LTE standards and Frequency band design. The solution includes a series of chipsets, which can alleviate the problem of "complex frequency bands" while improving RF performance, helping OEMs to more easily develop and support all seven network standards (LTE-FDD, LTE-TDD, WCDMA, EV-DO, CDMA 1x, TD-SCDMA and GSM / EDGE) multi-frequency multi-mode mobile terminals.

Regarding Qualcomm's release of RF360, many industry insiders believe that this move has "revolutionary" significance. Corresponding to RF360, Qualcomm also released a new RF transceiver chip WTR1625L, which is the industry's first product that supports carrier aggregation and significantly increases the number of frequency bands that can be supported. WTR1625L will support all cellular modes and all frequency bands and frequency band combinations that have been deployed in the world or are in commercial planning for 2G, 3G and 4G / LTE. In addition, it also has an integrated high-performance GPS core that supports GLONASS and Beidou satellite navigation systems.

In terms of Snapdragon processors, Qualcomm's S4 MSM8x30 and other processors also support TD-LTE / FDD LTE / TD-SCDMA / WCDMA / CDMA / GSM multimode, and S4 MSM8x30 integrates dual-core Krait CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. This processor is the world's first single-chip solution that integrates LTE modems and brings LTE technology to the mass-market smartphone market. In addition, the QRD solution with S4 MSM8x30 as the core has also been released, supporting all communication standards including TD-LTE. In 2012, many core media and analysis organizations awarded the "Best of the Year" to the S4 MSM8x30. The media believes that this processor is bringing LTE technology and leading smartphone experience to the mass market.

China Mobile pushes TD-LTE / LTE FDD hybrid network construction

In terms of FDD and TDD multi-mode coexistence, China Mobile stated during MWC that in December 2012, China Mobile Hong Kong officially launched the TD-LTE commercial network, which is not only China Mobile ’s first officially commercial TD-LTE network It is also the first LTE TDD / FDD converged commercial network in Asia, which will help the global promotion of LTE converged networking.

Supporting both LTE FDD and TD-LTE is also actively advocated by Huawei, ZTE, Ericsson, Qualcomm and other companies. Taking the processor as an example, all LTE processors currently introduced by Qualcomm support TD-LTE / LTE FDD multimode. The agency said that supporting both TD-LTE / LTE FDD and supporting 3G is an important advantage of Qualcomm processors. According to data, 47 million LTE FDD modems were shipped worldwide in 2012, and Qualcomm's 3G / LTE market share accounted for 86%. Qualcomm said that Qualcomm is the first and only company that can provide 3G / 4G-LTE (TDD / FDD) multimode chipsets.

Furthermore, in the post-LTE era, the 4G LTE Advanced field, Qualcomm also announced the launch of the industry ’s first 4G LTE Advanced embedded data connection platform during MWC for mobile computing such as ultra-thin laptops, tablets and composite design computers terminal. The technology is based on the third-generation Gobi MDM9225 and MDM9625 chipsets. It is the first embedded mobile computing solution that supports LTE carrier aggregation and LTE Category 4 with a peak data transfer rate of up to 150Mbps. Qualcomm said that the Gobi MDM9x25 chipset has been sampling to module suppliers since November last year, and commercial terminals are expected to be available in the second half of 2013.

A variety of LTE multi-mode mobile phones shine

LTE multi-mode mobile phone is the most attractive display project of this MWC. ASUS released PadFone Infinity, this third-generation anamorphic phone is a 5-inch (1920x1080) smartphone and a 10.1-inch tablet "fit", built-in 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, supports LTE / dual carrier HSPA + multi-mode, mobile phone equipped 13-megapixel camera, f / 2.0 large aperture camera lens.

HTC One was also released before MWC, supporting LTE / 3G multi-mode. HTC said that the phone will be listed in March, facing China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom in China. HTC One also uses the Snapdragon 600 processor and is equipped with HTC UltraPixel cameras. Both the front and rear cameras support 1080P full HD video recording.

The Snapdragon 600 processor integrated with Krait 300 CPU and Adreno 320 GPU also earlier supported LG to release its latest flagship LG Optimus G Pro, which supports LTE / CDMA2000 / WCDMA. Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon 600 series processors are aimed at high-end mobile terminals, and the performance of the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor is increased by up to 40%, and the power consumption is lower.

Mainland companies are also very powerful in using the most advanced processors. ZTE released the Grand Memo phone during MWC. Its version for the European market uses the Snapdragon 800 processor, which also supports LTE / 3G multi-mode. Krait 400 CPU, Adreno 330 GPU, Hexagon V5 DSP and 4G LTE Cat 4 modem are the key components of the Snapdragon 800 processor. The Krait 400 CPU has a maximum speed of 2.3 GHz per core. Based on the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the performance of the Snapdragon 800 series processor is increased by up to 75%. According to Qualcomm, there are currently more than 55 mobile phones based on this processor being designed.
