Panasonic Announces the Discontinued Production of White Hot Light Bulbs at the End of 10th

Panasonic announced on July 12 that the lineup of energy-saving products such as LED bulbs used to replace incandescent light bulbs has become more complete, and that the Japanese government has asked manufacturers and retailers in June to speed up the promotion of the popularization of LED bulbs. The decision to suspend production of incandescent light bulbs used in ordinary households on October 31, 2012 will halt production for half a year earlier than planned March 31, 2013.

Panasonic said that as of the end of July, the company's LED bulb products totaled 48, while the white light bulb products have fallen from 207 in 2008 to the current 4 models. Panasonic’s competitors in the lighting market, Toshiba and Mitsubishi ELectric, have now stopped producing incandescent light bulbs.

Foreign media pointed out that, since the production of incandescent light bulbs in 1936, Panasonic’s output of white heat lamps has reached 3.3 billion. In Japan's overall power demand, lighting accounts for 20% of the total. Therefore, if the lighting products are converted into LED bulbs or fluorescent lamps with high energy-saving efficiency, the power demand can be greatly reduced. At present, in Japan's overall lighting market, the proportion of products with low energy-saving efficiency is still about 60%.
