Linear Technology Introduces Highly Integrated Universal Power Management Solution LTC3375

Recently, Linear Technology introduced the LTC3375, a highly integrated universal power management solution for systems that require multiple low-voltage power supplies.

The LTC3375 features eight independent 1A channels, I2C control, flexible sequencing and fault monitoring in a compact QFN package. The LTC3375 includes eight internally compensated high efficiency synchronous buck regulators and a high voltage and always on 25mA LDO controller. Each buck regulator has its own independent 2.25V to 5.5V input supply and an output voltage range of 0.425V to VIN.

The device's button ON / OFF / RESET control, power-on reset and watchdog timer provide flexible and reliable power sequencing and system monitoring. The LTC3375 features a programmable and synchronizable 1MHz to 3MHz oscillator and a 2MHz default switching frequency. The quiescent current is only 11μA when all DC/DC is turned off, which extends battery run time. The device is suitable for a wide range of multi-channel applications, including industrial, automotive and communications systems.

The LTC3375's step-down DC/DC regulators can be used independently or in parallel to achieve a higher output current of up to 4A per output through a single shared inductor. Up to four adjacent regulators can be integrated to produce 15 different output configurations. By connecting the VIN and SW pins of the adjacent buck regulator together and connecting the FB pin of the slave buck regulator to the input supply, the adjacent buck regulator can be combined in one Master-slave configuration. All switching regulators are internally compensated and only require an external feedback resistor to set the output voltage. Alternatively, the output voltage can be set via I2C.

These switching regulators offer two modes of operation: Burst Mode ® operation (power-up default mode) for higher efficiency at light loads; forced continuous PWM mode for light load Lower noise. The I2C interface can be used to select operating mode, phase, feedback regulation voltage, and switching slew rate. These buck regulators feature forward and reverse current limiting, soft-start to limit inrush current during startup, short-circuit protection, and slew rate control for lower EMI emissions. Other features include a chip temperature monitor output (which can be read via I2C) and an overtemperature (OT) alarm function that indicate the internal chip temperature, which warns the user that the chip temperature is approaching the OT threshold.

The LTC3375 is available from stock in a thermally enhanced flat (0.75mm) 48-pin 7mm x 7mm exposed pad QFN package. Class E and Class I versions operate over a working temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, and Class H versions operate over a temperature range of -40°C to +150°C. The E-grade version is priced at $5.45 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
