Atmel launches the first ATA874x single-chip UHF ASK / FSK RF transmitter series

Atmel CorporaTIon announced the launch of the first ATA874x single-chip UHF ASK / FSK RF transmitter series. This new AVR product line has industry-leading radio frequency (RF) performance and can operate in the unlicensed ISM bands (868 to 928 MHz, 433 MHz, and 315 MHz). The ATA874x series targets a variety of proprietary wireless applications in the industrial and consumer sectors, such as metering, alarm systems, and home control applications.

Atmel is a well-known manufacturer in the smart metering and home automation market. It has been providing excellent wireless IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee products; now more measures are taken to meet the diverse needs of the proprietary wireless market.

The ATA874x series devices include a low-power AVR CPU and a high-efficiency RF transmitter, and the power consumption in sleep mode is only 160 nA. These devices use unique optimization techniques to meet the requirements of battery-powered applications such as remote controls or garage door opening devices. The ATA874x is available in a 5 mm x 5 mm miniature QFN24 package, which enables the creation of ultra-small designs at very competitive costs. Compared to traditional solutions, customers can therefore save up to 30% in bill of materials costs and up to 50% in circuit board area.

The newly introduced ATA874x device series is highly integrated and integrates RF transmitter technology that has sold more than 50 million pieces of Atmel.

The ATA874x device uses an ATtiny44V CPU, which provides maximum flexibility and enables flash memory reprogramming within the system. By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, ATtiny44V can achieve data throughput of nearly 1 MIPS / per MHz, helping system designers optimize the relationship between power consumption and processing speed. The powerful AVR controller can simplify the hardware and software design.

Atmel's new highly integrated, microcontroller-based RF solution, its main features include many mature technologies that have been widely adopted in different products since 2001. For example, the market-leading 8-bit microcontroller AVR CPU shipment has reached more than 1 billion, and has been integrated into countless products; and Atmel ’s RF technology also fully meets the most demanding quality and Reliability requirements. Customers of AVR or early RF products can also reuse existing RF transmitters or AVR designs and software, thereby reducing development costs and time to market.

The ATA874x single-chip narrow-band transmitter series is a complementary product of Atmel's mature ISM band receivers (such as ATA8201 and ATA8202 or ATA8203 / 4/5), which can provide customers with a complete end-to-end solution.

Supply and price

Atmel is now providing samples of the ATA874x series in a small form factor QFN24 package, with a unit price of $ 1 starting at 200,000 pieces. To simplify and accelerate product design, Atmel also provides a complete design kit for one-way RF applications, as well as Atmel ’s well-known AVR Studio® new software development kit (supplier code STK512-EKx-IND ), For customers to use for laboratory measurement and performance evaluation.
