MHL Releases ALTERNATE MODE Supporting New USB TYPE-C Connector

MHL, LLC has introduced the MHL Alternate Mode (referred to as "Alt Mode") for the USB Type-C specification. This innovative feature allows the USB Type-C connector and cable to support the MHL 3.2 standard, enabling advanced capabilities such as 4K video transmission, multi-channel audio, and HDCP 2.2 compatibility. The MHL Alliance continues to evolve its specifications, aiming to support more features and connectors like USB Type-C, ensuring broader industry adoption and consumer demand. Jeff Ravencraft, President and COO of the USB Developer Forum (USB-IF), stated: "The USB Type-C cable is an ideal solution for reliable connectivity across all platforms. We are working closely with MHL, LLC to develop complementary certification and compliance programs that support USB Type-C hosts and devices equipped with MHL Alt Mode. Additionally, we're developing a joint interface identification standard to help consumers easily recognize USB Type-C devices that support MHL Alt Mode." MHL's success stems from its ability to work with both existing standard connectors and proprietary ones found on mobile devices and displays. This flexibility has allowed MHL products to reach over 650 million units in just a few years. Devices with USB Type-C ports and MHL Alt Mode can connect to a wide range of MHL-enabled TVs, monitors, AVRs, Blu-ray players, projectors, set-top boxes, and car systems using a USB Type-C to HDMI MHL cable. They can also connect to traditional HDMI displays via an MHL-to-HDMI adapter. Rob Tobias, President of MHL, LLC, said: "MHL Alt Mode enables USB Type-C to support MHL 3.2, including 4K video, multi-channel audio, and HDCP 2.2. By using a single connector, it reduces costs and adds valuable functionality for both users and designers." For more details about MHL technology, visit [MHL Official Website].
