Network redundancy

Network Redundancy From: Korenix

Network reliability is a major consideration for modern industrial Ethernet project planning. When the network fails, communication must be resumed in a very fast manner to ensure the normal operation of the network. Although the STP/RSTP protocol can restore network communications, its convergence time is not fast enough. A ring topology running an excellent redundancy protocol can achieve fast recovery requirements. Generally, a device on the ring will play the role of a redundancy manager or RM. It will select a certain link on the ring network as a backup line and control the congestion or forwarding status of the line. Under normal circumstances, there is no equipment failure or disconnection of the line, RM will block the backup line, make the ring into a logical linear structure, the data stream is transmitted on the linear structure. Once a device fails or a line is interrupted, the line becomes an abnormal state of two independent networks. The RM will immediately switch the backup line to the communication state and restore the two independent networks into a logical linear connection. Therefore, the network transmission may not be guaranteed. Affected.

Rapid Super Ring (RSR)

The Korenix JetNet switch series supports MSR (Multiple Super Ring), the next-generation RSR (Rapid Super Ring) redundant ring network technology. This next-generation ring network technology is suitable for various network redundancy and network architecture application requirements. Using MSRTM technology, one network node can be attached to multiple rings with a failover time of less than 5ms and a multiplex recovery time of 0ms. In addition, users can add hundreds of JetNet switches to expand the ring network structure to meet the needs of network applications, without having to worry about the network transmission rate will be affected. MSR technology can also easily connect JetNet series switches to core network management switches and use the RSTP protocol or Rapid Dual Homing (RDH) technology to increase the reliability of connection between the two nodes through multiple lines and multiple nodes. If the MSRTM ring network technology is combined with the Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) link aggregation protocol, the connectivity and reliability of the network can be increased, and the network quality can be fully improved. Banding two or more port links to aggregate bandwidth not only increases bandwidth, but also improves redundancy between nodes.

Rapid Dual Homing (RDH) Technology

RDH Rapid Dual Homing replaces DualHoming II and supports ring coupling. Keeping the features of simple setup and multiple redundancy forms, the self-healing time is faster (failover time is less than 50ms), and the disconnection recovery time (restore time) is zero, achieving seamless recovery. The uplink ports can be automatically detected and grouped without additional settings. In each group, the main, secondary, and backup connections are based on the connection rate. The highest rate is as uplink connection, similar to the active link for data communication. RDHTM integrates the link aggregation function. The uplink connection can be a single connection or multiple connection aggregation groups, providing better redundancy mechanism and uplink bandwidth.

TrunkRing

Symmetrical TrunkRing Asymmetrical TrunkRing TrunkRing is a new feature of MSR that integrates the two technologies of RSR fast self-healing ring network and link aggregation. It absorbs the characteristics that link aggregation can improve the connection redundancy and connection rate. Only when all aggregation connections are disconnected, the ring network will be disconnected. Link aggregation supports static trunking and dynamic aggregation (LACP). TrunkRing does not require that each segment be consistent. The connection of the ring network can be symmetric or asymmetric. For example, some connections on the ring are single lines, others may be aggregated connections on multiple lines, and the number of group members on each aggregated link may be different. Users can improve the redundancy of a certain segment of the connection to meet the needs of practical applications. A lower rate connection is similar to a backup line and restores network connectivity when a failure occurs.

MultiRing

MultiRing technology provides a more convenient method for connecting two ring networks. The simplest example is to use only one device to connect two rings. Depending on the number of ports, a single device can even connect multiple rings. As shown in the figure below, MultiRing technology extends the network structure by concatenating multiple ring networks or extending them in multiple directions. In addition to good scalability, the diversity of MultiRing is reflected in the support for integration of multiple different ring technologies. After the MultiRing function is enabled on the switch, multiple RSR, TrunkRing and Super Ring rings can be integrated to support a more flexible topology and maintain good compatibility.
